A Boeing 737-300 of Garuda Indonesia’s Citilink unit was en route from Jakarta to Batam near Singapore when the pilot decided to make an emergency landing in Palembang, South Sumatra. Moral of the story is, never fly with Garuda.

Malaysia supplies 3.6 million poultry and 83.7 million eggs per month to Singapore.

However, imports from Selangor constitute only about six percent of the poultry and one percent of the egg imports from Malaysia.

AVA says it will continue to remain on high alert and work closely with its Malaysian counterpart to monitor the development of the disease situation to ensure that poultry and eggs imported from Malaysia do not compromise public and animal health.

Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, the Eggs Import Association said it does not expect prices to be seriously affected.

North Korea featured prominently in talks between US President George W. Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ahead of the Group of Eight summit in the German resort of Heiligendam, officials said. Abe said North Korea had not done enough to ease international concerns over its nuclear programme, and a dispute over Japanese abducted by North Korea in the 1970s and 80s. “So we agreed that the G8 leaders need to send a strong message to North Korea on these issues” in the declaration at the end of the summit, Abe said after the Bush talks. “There is a common message here, and that is we expect the North Koreans to honour agreements,” Bush commented. “And it’s very important for the Japanese people to know that I strongly support Shinzo Abe’s desire to deal with this very important issue … the abduction issue,” the US leader added.
